Getting a bit fitter is one of those good intentions that the majority of us will have but it can be difficult to find the time if you live a hectic life.

Finding a routine that can be carried out around the home whenever you have some spare time can help you to bulk out your week if you can only get to the gym once or twice.

Here are some of the best exercises that you might want to consider if you are new to fitness and are looking to take advantage of the odd spare minute you have.

Press Ups

Press ups are a staple and can be done whenever you get a spare minute. Depending on your level you can make them easy or difficult.

To perform a press up place your hands a shoulder width apart and keep your torso straight in a plank position. You can then lower your body before pushing back up while keeping a good form.

Dumbbell standing shoulder press

Investing in a small set of weights can open up a whole world of exercises that you can do in the home. The dumbbell standing shoulder press is one example that can be carried out with minimal hassle.

Simply stand with your dumbbells at your shoulders and raise them to a full extension before returning them to their starting position and repeating for a number of sets.

Lat Raise

Gently raising dumbbells from your waist up until they reach shoulder height before slowly bringing them back down will be a great exercise to help you create the much sought after V.

Plank

We mentioned it earlier but the plank is a great way to build your core strength and endurance.

Get into your press up position but instead of being on your hands rest on your forearms and hold the position for set periods of time.

Lie on your back with your arms pointed towards the sky, raise our feet and have your knees at 90 degrees and lower and raise one leg at a time.

This is another great core workout that will help to build your strength.

Crunches

Lie on your back with your knees bent at 90 degrees before raising your head and tensing your abs. Not unlike a sit up, the crunch will work your abs so should be the first port of call for anyone looking for definition.

These are all handy little exercises that won’t take up your whole day and can be carried out in your home or workplace and can help towards a more dedicated workout regime. These small exercises could be the difference in you getting to the next level.
