Going to the gym can be daunting when you aren’t too sure about exercises and trying to find the odd thing you can do at home can be just as hard. With dumbbells they can be easily kept in your home without taking up too much space and there are some great exercises for the home or the gym that can help you.
Here are some of our favourite dumbbell workouts that you can do at home or in the gym.
To work your glutes and hip mobility the Goblet Squat is a great way to use dumbbells. Simply hold one with both hands up in front of your chest then squat with your feet slightly wider than your shoulders.
This one is just like those powerlifters you see in the Olympics. By starting low and bursting up you work a number of muscle groups. Start squatting down with both dumbbells in front of your feet before bringing the weights up to your shoulders in a standing position, rotating your wrists and pushing up.
If you have ever tried to carry an entire big shop into the house in one journey then you will already have the technique for the Farmer’s Walk down.
Carrying the dumbbells at around arm’s length then take quick short steps for a set distance back and forth. Great for grip strength and of course, the big shop walk.
Bent Over Row
This is a great upper body workout that can target lats, biceps, traps and more. By bending over and rowing the weights up towards your chest while keeping a straight back and fixed core you will see some excellent results.
Stiff Legged Dead Lift
Think of this as a hardcore toe touching exercise. You will go through the same motions only this time you will be holding two dumbbells. This is great for the lower body and your legs will really benefit.
As we said, dumbbells are great for workouts either at the gym or if you want to utilise your time at the gym with things you can’t do elsewhere you can make the most of these exercises in the home.
It is not always easy to find the time for a full workout but having the option of doing this when you have a little spare time is excellent for those with hectic lifestyles that still want to make the effort.
